What is a Credit Union?
A credit union is a not-for-profit financial institution, owned
and governed by its members. A credit union is formed by people
who have a common bond, such as where they live, work, or go
to church. Each member has a voice -and a vote- in how their
credit union operates.
Credit Unions are closely regulated, like other
financial institutions. The National Credit Union Association
(NCUA) is the federal government agency that regulates credit
unions. The National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, administered
by the NCUA, insures deposits of credit union members nationwide.
Deposits are insured up to $100,000.
Benefits of Joining a Credit Union
Since credit unions are non-profit, they can provide members
with lower cost products, lower loan rates, and higher interest
on savings. Through automatic payroll deduction offered by most
company groups, it is easy and convenient to deposit into savings
or repay loan obligations.
Lifetime membership
Even after a member leaves the Field of Membership he/she may
remain a member. ONCE A MEMBER, ALWAYS A MEMBER.
Family Membership
Because of your membership, family members can enjoy the benefits
of CUMCO Federal Credit Union membership. Immediate family members
and household members are eligible to join the Credit Union.
This unique eligibility is a great opportunity to pass along
all of your credit union benefits. Family members include spouse,
child, sibling, parent, grandparent, stepsiblings, and adopted
individuals. Household members are defined as persons living
in the same residence, maintaining a single economic unit. Sign
